This analytical summary analyzes two articles on euthanasia and answers the question should euthanasia be legal?
Debate On Euthanasia
Euthanasia is ending someone’s life on one’s request in order to stop suffering from pain. It has been a great debate since years whether euthanasia should be legal or illegal and every country has different laws about euthanasia. There are different perspectives about people’s own opinions about ending their life by themselves.
Supporting Euthanasia to be Legal
Matthew Hayes discusses this topic from the perspective of his grandmother who had a lot of pain in the last months of her life. The author asks the question to the reader; what is the reason behind taking the right of people for dying while they are having a lot of pain both physically and emotionally? (Matthew Hayes, “All Individuals Have the Right to Die with Dignity”, Panam Post, November 2014, p.1) He also asks the question whether there is a better way of stopping this pain or not (Matthew Hayes, p.1). He states that all doctors should help the patients with endless pain a free euthanasia (Matthew Hayes, p.1).
Why Should Euthanasia be Illegal?
On the other hand, some people like Derek Miedema think the opposite way. Miedema refers to euthanasia in his article as a shameful way to end one’s life. (Derek Miedema, “Assisted Suicide Laws Empower Doctors to Prescribe Death”, Panam Post, November 2014, p.1). The writer continues his article by saying that anyone with any disability should continue living whatever he or she is facing (Derek Miedema, p.1). He also says that the choice of euthanasia is not made only by the patients but also by the environment because people do not like it when the people around them need to care about them all the time and they choose the way of euthanasia.
In my opinion, Matthew Hayes, the writer of the first article is fully correct but there should be some limitations for euthanasia. First of all, if someone is suffering from an ilness and if there is not any cures for that illnes, they should have the right of euthanasia. Because they know that they will not be cure anytime, they will always be unhappy and suffering pain so I think it is the best way for them for euthanasia. But in some cases that can be cured or not giving a lot of pain to the patient, euthanasia should not be allowed because they can learn how tol ive with that illness and they can adapt themselves to the ilness and live with it.
