Reasons of Eating Disorders
There are several reasons of eating disorders and two of these reasons will be discussed in this essay. Firstly, in today’s world, signals of ideal body image is sent to women as being thin. These signals are sent through media such as magazines, televisions and newspapers. In my opinion, women are taking the perfect body image that is imposed to them in a serious way. As a result of this, women are becoming stereotypes in terms of their body since they all want to be thin.
Eating Disorders of Women
This idea is stated in the article of Mark Dombeck as the women characters on television, movies and magazines are stereotypes as they are interpreted to have the ideal body shape and weight and this affects the young girls and adolescents in a way that makes them think the women bodies on television are the ideal and normal ones. Second reason for eating disorders is the genetic factors just like many other properties of human body. Bridget Engel makes a statement about the relationship between genetics and eating disorders in his article called “Eating Disorders” as “Eating disorders are often biologically inherited and tend to run in families.
Eating Disorder Research
Recent research suggests that inherited bioilogical and genetic factors contribute approximately 56% of the risk for developing an eating disorder” (2010). To conclude, it is obvious that the televisions and most of the other media are trying to make the women have an ideal body image and this body shape is defined as a thin body with a very low fat percentage.
