Theory of Knowledge or IB TOK presentations are one of the requirements of International Baccalaureate from the students. Within these presentations, the students are required to write a presentation script. This blog post shares a TOK presentation sample script for free. IB students can use this script in order to shape their minds about their own TOK presentation.
Real Life Situation
El Masri and El Ahli are two rival teams in Egypt. They are like Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray in Turkey or Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain. As reported by BBC News, In February 2012, Two egyptian teams El Ahli and El Masri had a football match. The teams have been in rivaly with each other for decades. The match had a surprise ending and the visiting team, El Ahli, beat the home team, El Masri, with a score of 3-1. The fans of the home team couldn’t stand with the result and started spreading terror. The fans of El Masri attacked the players and fans of El Ahli. In the clash between the rival fans of the teams, 74 people died and more than 1000 people got wounded.
Now I want to show you a picture and I want you to read what is written on that picture.
I think, most of you read this as ‘I love Paris in the springtime’ and couldn’t see the second the in the last line and the ones that read the sentence wrong are most probably think that they would never do such a mistake but after doing that mistake they will most probably say ‘how could I missed the second the’. The reason for this is that; since you didn’t expect me to have a mistake in this picture that I use in a presentation, to which I show ultimate attention. This is all about our expectations.
As a consequence of our perception, we have expectations. Our expectations can influence how we see things. You can always be defeated by your expectations. This happened for the fans of the teams in Egypt as well.
After the match, since the fans of El Masri was so sad about being beated, they expected El Ahli’s players and fans to do bad things like swearing to them. Because of their expectations, they would most probably expect the players to commit a foul against the players of their teams, they would even accept the rival teams’ players most innocent moves as fouls. As a result of this, they most probably sow discord among the rival teams’ players and fans. At the very end they started a fight to give the rival team their lessons by fighting with them.
This is all about expectations and expectations are seen in every humanbeing’s nature. So, we can not judge them with their perception. Because they have done all those things because of their perception and expectations, which are in their nature already.
Looking from the perpective of emotion, we can anlyse the situation of the fans of the both teams. The feeling of the home team’s fans is anger and the feeling of the away team’s fans is fear. Even if they know that the security is around and they will save them in any dangerous situation. For instance, if a person knows that a grass snakes are harmless or it is statistically safer to fly than to drive, he or she would still be annoyed when seeing a grass snake or sitting in a air plane. As a result of their fear, they would show some mild annoyance.
Coming to the home team’s fans; A group of people can get angry in case of a bad situation but the reaction of the fans of El Masri can be described as irrational. In this case there is surely something wrong with the home team’s fans’ emotions. [I will add some more about emotions after a research]
There are not just two areas of knowledge and we can not come to a result by just one perspective. There is also a scientific perspective that we can anlyse the situation.
